1. Introduction

Welcome to StorybookYou! This Privacy Policy explains how Aila Education LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use the StorybookYou website and services (the "Service").

Our Service is operated from Virginia, USA. By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. This policy is incorporated by reference into our Terms and Conditions.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to create and deliver your personalized storybook. We do not require you to create an account. The information is collected when you place an order.

A. Information You Provide to Us:

  • For Character Creation: Child's first name (or a nickname), age, character's gender, eye color, and a photograph of the child.
  • For Order Fulfillment & Delivery: Your name (the purchaser), your email address, and the recipient's name and shipping address.

B. Information Collected Automatically:

  • Usage Data: We use analytics and advertising tools (including Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, and Firebase Analytics) to collect information about how you interact with our website, such as pages viewed and actions taken. This data helps us improve our Service, measure advertising effectiveness, and is generally not linked to your personal order information.
  • Device and Log Data: When errors occur, our error-monitoring service (Sentry) may collect technical information such as browser type, device information, and diagnostic logs to help us fix issues.
  • Cookies: Like most websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to operate, analyze, and advertise our Service. See Section 9 for details.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your personal information is used exclusively for the following purposes:

  • To Fulfill Your Order: To generate the custom story and illustrations, print the book, and ship it to the specified address.
  • To Communicate With You: To send order confirmations, shipping updates, and to respond to your customer service inquiries or refund requests.
  • To Maintain Our Service: To moderate submissions for safety and appropriateness and to ensure our Service is functioning correctly.
  • For Marketing (With Your Consent): We may use the final illustrations and story excerpts (never your original photograph) for marketing purposes, but only if you do not opt-out.
  • For Analytics and Advertising: To understand how visitors use our website and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on platforms such as Google and Meta.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information with trusted third-party service providers to help us operate our Service. Some providers use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and advertising, which under certain U.S. state privacy laws may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. See Section 8 for how to opt out.

  • Google Gemini: We securely transmit the character details and photo to Google Gemini's API for the sole purpose of generating your custom illustrations. Google Gemini uses generative AI.
  • OpenAI: We securely transmit the character details and photo to OpenAI’s API for the sole purpose of generating the story and illustrations. OpenAI uses generative AI.
  • Printing & Shipping Partners: We provide the recipient's name and shipping address to our printing and fulfillment partners.
  • Stripe: Processes your payment information securely. We do not see or store your credit card details.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads: Collect usage data and measure advertising performance through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel: Collects usage data and measures advertising performance through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymized usage data to help us understand how our Service is used.
  • Sentry: Collects error and diagnostic data to help us identify and fix technical issues with our Service.

Service providers that process order-related data are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only to provide services to us.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We have specific data retention policies depending on the status of your order.

A. Pending Orders

By starting the personalization process but not completing a purchase, you allow us to temporarily store your data as a "Pending Order." Your child's name, age, gender, and uploaded photo are stored for up to 48 hours to allow for a quicker checkout if you return, and are automatically deleted after that window.

If you provided an email address, we retain it separately from your child's information in order to send you order-related follow-ups and occasional promotional emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by contacting us.

B. Completed Orders

After you complete a purchase, we retain your child's uploaded photo along with their name and gender for up to fourteen (14) days, solely to support order fulfillment, quality checks, and internal customer support. After 14 days, the original photo is permanently deleted.

Separately, by purchasing a personalized book, you consent to us retaining the AI-generated character drawing along with your child's name, age, and gender to create a "Customer Profile." This profile is retained for up to twelve (12) months and is used to send you customized offers and information about new products. Your child's original photo is never included in this profile. You can opt out of these marketing emails and request deletion of your Customer Profile at any time by contacting us.

6. Children's Photo & Data Handling

Our Service is intended for purchase by adults over the age of 18.

  • Parent or Guardian: You represent that you are the parent, legal guardian, or have obtained permission from one to submit a child's photo and information.
  • Limited Use: The child's information is used solely to create the personalized product.
  • Deletion Right: If we discover we have collected a child's information without the required permission, we will delete it. Parents can request to review or delete their child's information at any time by contacting us.

7. Your Data Rights and Choices

You have rights over your personal information, including the right to access, rectify, or request deletion of your data, and to opt out of marketing. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@storybookyou.com. For choices related to targeted advertising, see Section 8.

8. Your Privacy Choices

Residents of certain U.S. states have the right to opt out of the "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use analytics and advertising tools from providers such as Google and Meta that may use cookies and similar technologies for these purposes.

To opt out of targeted advertising related to your use of our website, email us at support@storybookyou.com with the subject line "Privacy Choices Opt-Out." Please include enough information for us to identify your request (such as the email address associated with your order, if applicable). We will process your request within the time required by applicable law.

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate our website, analyze traffic, and measure advertising. These include:
